James W. Smith

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday December 17, 2012 in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Cliff Houghton, pastor of Fairview Assembly of God Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.

Mr. Smith was born Oct. 25, 1924, to James R. and Lera Smith. He graduated from Childress High School in 1942 and attended West Texas State College. He joined the Army from 1943 to 1946. He married Beaulah Terrell on July 5, 1944.

Mr. Smith worked for Asarco for 34 years before retiring. He was a member of Fairview Assembly of God Church and the 25 Year Club. James enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Ann Smith, his parents and a brother.

Survivors include his wife, Verlene Smith of Amarillo; two daughters, Sandra K. Mathes and husband David and Sheila Richardson and husband Randy, all of Amarillo; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday December 16, 2012 at the funeral home.
