James “Jim” Thomas Rhodes, 85, of Amarillo died April 26, 2022. A Prayer Service will be held at Griggs Schooler Gordon, 5400 Bell, on Wednesday May 4, 2022 at 2:00pm, with Deacon Blaine Westlake officiating. Burial will follow the service at Llano East Cemetery.
He was born November 18, 1936 in Victoria British Columbia to Thomas and Edith Rhodes. He graduated from Victoria High School. After graduation, he served in the RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force) from 1954 to 1961. He attended College of Dupage in Wheaton, Illinois, as well as, Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. He was employed at RIDL (Radiation Instrument Development Lab) as a design engineer. He also worked for Siemen’s Nuclear Medicine Division (Formerly Nuclear Chicago and GD Searle) at Hoffman Estates, Ill as a design engineer. He retired after 33 years of service in 1996. He married Basilla “Bila” Rhodes, formerly Basilla Delgadillo in 1988. Jim will be remembered as a kind and gentle man.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Edith Rhodes.
He is survived by his wife, Basilla; a daughter, Denise Hayward and husband Bill, of Mundelein, Il; a step-son, Reynaldo Serna and wife Betsy, of Arizona; a granddaughter, Katie Hayward and a grandson, Christopher Hayward and his daughter Charlotte, both of Mundelein; and a step-granddaughter, Rachael Morris and husband Kevin and their daughters Abigail and Caroline of New Berlin, Wisconsin; a sister, Eleanor Stark and husband Ross, of Victoria BC; a brother David Rhodes and wife Nancy, of New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews.
