In 1953, Darrell married Mary K. Bohn, creating a loving union that lasted nearly 69 years. In 1986, Darrell and Mary K. returned to Amarillo where they built a beautiful home, and Darrell worked as a building superintendent at Olsen Park Baptist, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, and St. Luke’s Presbyterian. Darrell and Mary K. began enjoying retirement with each other and their growing family of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Darrell always enjoyed working in the yard and planting flowers until he was unable to do so. He also became a collector of many things, including any Dallas Cowboys object, bobble heads, brass figures, and baseball caps.
