Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Second Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne Griffin, Lynn Nikkel- WSBC Exec. Dr., Pastor Paul R. Thompson and Pastor Terrell O’Brien officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.
Clyde R. Thompson, 73, of Amarillo entered heaven from his home early in the morning of Oct. 27, 2014. He was born March 15, 1941, in Amarillo to Doss and Reva Thompson.
After graduating from Palo Duro High School in 1959, he went on to achieve degrees from Wayland Baptist College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary before devoting his days to the service of the Lord, Jesus Christ, as pastor, church planter and missionary in Colorado and Wyoming.
He married Shirley Allison on Sept. 29, 1961. They moved back to Amarillo in 2006 from Wyoming after Clyde’s retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charlie Thompson; his sisters, Wanda Thompson and Mary Lois DeRight; and a great-grandson, Andrew J. Thompson Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Allison Thompson; three sons, Lesley Thompson and wife Martha, Paul Thompson and wife Renee and Mark Thompson and wife Shirl; a sister, Charlene Simons; four grandsons, David and wife Emily, Andrew and wife Karina, Silas and wife Bianca and Eli; a granddaughter, Mackenzie; and a great-granddaughter, Alyssa.
The family suggests memorials be to Wyoming Southern Baptist Convention, Attention Benny Delmar Fund, 3925 Casper Mountain Road, Casper, WY 82601.
