April 12, 1932 – January 10, 2020
DIMOPOULOS, Ilias, 87, passed away on January 10 after a long battle with cancer and heart disease. Ilias was born and raised in Greece and then immigrated to this country in 1970 with his wife and two young children in search of a better life for them. They settled in St. Paul, Minnesota where he worked in several restaurants. He and his family eventually opened 3 steakhouses in the area that he owned and managed. In 1986 his son, who was working in Orlando, convinced him to sell the steakhouses and relocate to Florida for his retirement. But he was too restless in retirement and for many years found enjoyment working at the Orlando Science Center Café. He is remembered by many friends and neighbors for his warmth and friendliness and they were always welcomed in to his home with genuine Greek hospitality…and, sweet treats! Ilias was preceded in death by his only son, Michael Dimopoulos, in 1995; and, is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Stella; his daughter Koula Remoundos; his daughter-in-law, Linda Dimopoulos; and, his grandchildren, Alex Dimopoulos, Anastasia Remoundos and Stella Remoundos. Ilias (or, "Papou", as he was known to the grandkids) played a constant and key role in all of their upbringing and they all will dearly miss his loving, adventuresome and generous spirit. Services will be help at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Greater Orlando on Monday, January 13 with Visitation at 10am and Service at 11am. The church is located at 1217 Trinity Woods Lane, Maitland, FL 32751.
