Dora Harms (Hargrove), 92, of Brentwood, TN passed peacefully on Tuesday September 12th, 2023. A funeral service will be held at the Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home at 994 East Altamonte Drive, Altamonte Springs, Florida on Thursday, September 21st. Visitation will be at 10:00AM, the service at 11AM, followed by a celebration of life luncheon.
Dora, born on June 29th, 1931, was the youngest of 5 siblings born to Johnny Felton Hargrove and Clara Clem Hargrove of Ardmore, Alabama. Growing up as the youngest on the family farm, Dora developed a strong work ethic and attention to detail. She applied these skills to every area of her life, including her appearance. Dora never left the house without lipstick or shoes that matched her handbag – even if she was only walking to the mailbox. She considered fashion and shopping both sports!
Of all her roles and accomplishments in life, she will be most remembered as a loving grandmother, “Mimi”, to her granddaughters. Mimi took an active role in her granddaughters’ lives, with the smell of cookies in the backseat of the Volvo as a permanent reminder of her carpool days. Dawning her square-dancing skirts and costume jewelry, her granddaughters would perform for hours for the delighted Mimi. Often followed with a celebratory macaroni and cheese and bowl of ice cream.
Dora enjoyed the people in her life, and her AARP friends were a large part of her retirement years. Dora served as Club President of the Winter Park Chapter of the AARP and was named Volunteer of the Year in the State of Florida. AARP trips were a favorite part of her volunteer activities.
Dora was preceded in death by her husband of 21 years Al Mroczkowski. Dora and Al loved to travel, playing cards, and dance. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, John Harms; first husband, William Nichols; her brothers, Jamie Hargrove, and J.C. Hargrove; and sisters, Annie Jewel Hodges and Nancy Pepper. Dora is survived by her daughter, Debbie Nichols-Deaver, (Allen) of Brentwood Tennessee, granddaughters, Sydney Donovan, (Tim) of Winter Park, Florida and Claire Whalen, (Patrick) of Charleston, South Carolina.
A visitation will take place on Thursday September 21, 2023 from 10AM to 11 AM. A funeral service for Dora will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, 994 E ALTAMONTE DR, ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL 32701, followed by a reception from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
