Capt. Robert (Bob) Leo Normand, USN (Ret.), 90, formerly of Alexandria, Virgina, went to be with our Heavenly Father on December 24, 2023, one day short of his beloved wife Lucy’s passing 8 years ago. We are sure that Lucy was there waiting with open arms with a Christmas cookie. Many a vodka tonic toast was made on Christmas Eve in his honor.
Bob was born on February 16, 1933 and was raised in Fairview, MA. Bob went on to attend Bryant College where he earned a B.S. in Accounting and met the love of his life, Lucy. They were married in 1954. After graduating from college, Bob joined the United States Navy where he served an illustrious 26-year career. With 4 small children at home, he completed his MBA from George Washington University in 1968. Bob and Lucy traveled around the country and the world during his career with the Navy, finally settling in Alexandria, VA, where he retired in 1979.
After the passing of Lucy and his faithful dog Holly, Bob moved to Winston-Salem, NC with his daughter, Laurie and son-in-law Kevin. There he joined the Maple Chase Country Club, where he golfed for many years. He enjoyed companionship and parties with the Cobblestone Road friends.
After 5 years in Winston-Salem, Bob moved to Ridgeville, SC where he spent his final 14 months.
Bob cherished his family and will be forever remembered by his 4 children: Linda (John) of Summerville, SC; Laura (Kevin) of Ridgeville, SC; Paul (Sandra) of Keller, TX; and Lisa (Hal) of Edgewood, NM, 10 grandchildren, 1 step-grandson, 4 great-grandchildren and a 5th great-grandchild on the way, his sister Rosalyn and his niece.
Mass will be held at Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church in Alexandria, VA, and burial services at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
