Louis Leo "Sonny" Whitestone (Age 94) formerly of Alexandria, Virginia passed away on November 16, 2024. Sonny led a remarkable life across nearly a century, filled with dedication, resilience and love. Born at the onset of the Great Depression, he grew up in a supportive and successful family, which instilled in him a strong work ethic. Sonny began his career working for his father's construction company, where his talent and drive soon led him to own the business, Fred Drew Construction. After many prosperous years in the construction industry, Sonny pursued a new path as the Director of Maintenance for the Hospital Corporation America (HCA), bringing his expertise and commitment to excellence to the healthcare field. In his later years, Sonny retired to focus on what he valued most- his family. His warmth, and enduring love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his wives, Willis Anne "Billie", and Angelita "Angie"; along with his son-in-law, James E. Shortt Jr.; and his son Louis, Jr. Sonny is survived by his four children, Annemarie, Robert and his wife Nancy, John and his wife Sandra, Timothy and his wife Jennifer, and daughter-in-law Sharon; along with 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother David and his wife Pat, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, Virginia on December 4, 2024 from 6:00-8:00PM. Mass of Christian Burial is December 5, 2024 at 10:30AM, at Basilica of St. Mary Catholic Church, 310 S. Royal St., Alexandria, Virginia. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 1000 S. Royal St., Alexandria, Virginia.
