Joan Dickson Reichard On Friday, November 4, 2016, Joan Dickson Reichard, died peacefully at INOVA Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia. Joan was born March 25, 1929 in Tucson, Arizona. She lived in Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, Chevy Chase, Maryland, and New Delhi, India prior to marrying her husband Richard in December 1947. She attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington D.C., and attended college at the University of Arizona, UCLA and the University of California, Santa Barbara. Joan was predeceased by her parents, William and Nina Whitmore Dickson; husband, Richard Reichard, who died July 1, 1993; and daughter, Kate Reichard Ramoth, who died August 14, 2016. Joan is survived by her son, David; son-in-law Scott Ramoth; granddaughter Lily Ramoth; cousins Charlene Parise, Bobbie Tinsley, and Louise Ringo; and nieces Diane Gannon and Denise Leiler. She also leaves behind numerous friends. Joan was not only a friend to many, but also a leader, neighbor, gardener, painter, world traveler, confidante, bridge player, and a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. Joan’s work life included teaching pre-school at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, followed by a twenty-year career as Director of Hospital Volunteers at the Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia. The funeral service will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 8009 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria, Virginia 22308 on Saturday November 19 at 11:30 a.m. The interment of ashes will be at the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
