Gary was born in Detroit, Michigan and raised in Ranger, Texas. He graduated from Ranger High School in 1961. The valedictorian of his graduating class, he also played on the RHS golf team. He was the District and Regional individual medalist and finished third in the 1961 Texas State Championship Tournament. He attended Ranger College for one year on a full scholarship. In 1969, he was asked to transfer to Wyatt’s Washington DC office where he was part of a group that started Wyatt’s Communication Division. He became head of that Division in 1976. Under his leadership, the Communications Division grew both in personnel and profitability. Initially created to prepare individualized benefit statements for the employees of Wyatt’s clients, the division expanded into other areas of benefit communication including brochures and videos. He was rewarded for his achievements by being elected to Wyatt’s Board of Directors for a term. Also, under his guidance, the Communications Division developed another key area of client work providing recordkeeping services, an emergent and growing benefits industry. After a successful 27-year career with Wyatt, Gary retired in 1992.
He continued to nurture his love of golf at Mount Vernon Country Club. He was Senior Club Champion twice and, with his partner, David Thompson, won the Two Man Team Championship. Gary maintained a single digit handicap well into his seventies.
