Esther Maye Gray

Esther Hammaker Gray, 84, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away on May 15, 2015. She was born in Frederick, MD on March 19, 1931 and lived in Thurmont, MD until she was 25. She graduated from Connecticut College in 1953. She was married for 13 years when her husband, Campbell Watkins Gray Jr., died of a heart attack. After that, she raised her two sons on her own. She was the membership chair for many years for Post Cana of Northern Virginia, where she met Earl Miller who became her beloved companion for the rest of her life. Esther is survived by Earl Miller, and her sons, Campbell Watkins Gray III and John Catherine-Gray (and wife Jeanne). A memorial service will be held at John Calvin Presbyterian Church, 6531 Columbia Pike, Annandale, VA 22003 on Saturday, May 30 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on July 30 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Esther’s name to Shriners Hospitals for Children or John Calvin Presbyterian Church.
