Daniel Chapman

Daniel T. Chapman, a retired U.S. Army Colonel, died on June 2, 2011 at INOVA Mt. Vernon Hospital. Colonel Chapman had resided in Alexandria since 1973. He served during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was at Fort Shafter, Hawaii when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and later participated in operations in the European theater. During the Korean War he participated in combat actions at Old Baldy and Pork Chop Hill. His decorations included the Legion of Merit, The Bronze Star with Oak leaf cluster and the Army and Joint Service Commendations Medals. He was born in Dillon, Montana, graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles and received a Masters Degree in international affairs from George Washington University. During his military service he graduated from the Artillery School, the Command and General Staff College. The Armed Forces Staff College and the Army War College. His wife of fifty years, Barbara, died in 1998. He is survived by his former ward, Henry Allen Cunningham, III of North Potomac. Funeral services with Full Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 10:45am at The Ft. Myer Chapel with interment to follow at Arlington National Cemetery.
