William Turpin, age 89, of North Little Rock, Arkansas passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023.
Bill was a naval war veteran, who embarked on his final voyage in the early hours of August 6, 2023 at the age of 89.
Bill will be remembered not only for his dedication to his country but also for the love and provisions he showered upon his family.
Born on October 12, 1933 in Ashdown Arkansas, Bill grew up with a strong sense of duty and honor. At the tender age of 17 his spirit led him to serve his nation. He lied about his age and enlisted in the Navy with great fervor. Displaying remarkable courage and unwavering commitment, he participated in numerous naval campaigns including a mission that carried him around Cape Horn.
Beyond his military career, Bill was a beacon of strength and hard work to all who had the honor of knowing him. He was a loving husband to his wife Jane, with whom he enjoyed companionship for almost 69 years. Their commitment to one another is a shining example to his family and friends. His last request was honored by his children by taking him to the love of his life holding her hand.
As a father, Bill was both a provider and a pillar of hard work. He instilled in his children an unwavering sense of integrity and reminded them of the values he held dear; work ethic, honor, and the importance of family. He will be forever etched in their hearts as a loving and devoted father.
In his later years, Bill found solace in the company of his grandchildren and great grand children with whom he imparted invaluable life lessons to creating lasting memories. He made an irreplaceable impact in their lives that will be forever cherished.
In his free time, Bill enjoyed owning thoroughbred race horses, betting on horse races, playing poker with his friends at the Eagles Club, bowling on numerous leagues with family and friends in which he was inducted into the Central Arkansas Bowling Association Hall of Fame, watching Arkansas Razorback sporting events, even though he swore they were rigged, and running the family business, Turpin Painting Company, alongside his son and grandson.
Today, as we bid farewell to a truly remarkable man, let us honor his memory by remembering the sacrifices he made for our freedom and the love he had for his family and all those who crossed his path.
Bill is survived by his loving children; Cheryl McGee (Lee), Larry Turpin (Cathy), and Pam Ferguson (Hal), his cherished grandchildren; Clayton, Eric, Lindsey, Nicole, Kristin, Paige, Tyler and Kyle, his 10 adored great-grandchildren and a vast network of friends and colleagues who will forever treasure his memory.
A funeral service will be held at Pinecrest Funeral Home in Alexander Arkansas on August 9, 2023 at 10:00 am. Visitation will be on August 8, 2023 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the same location.
