Born in small town Scott, Saskatchewan, Lorraine was the youngest of six children raised by John and Katharina Loewen. In 1945, at the age of 17, Lorraine and a friend left the prairies on a life changing adventure, travelling via train to Mission, BC.
A blind date resulted in meeting the love of her life and in 1949 married Stuart Hood. Life became hectic raising 5 children, but there was always time to dance.
Lorraine is lovingly remembered by her children Rob, Ken, Laurie, Carol-Lynn; grandchildren James, Carissa, Stu, Sam, Stephanie, Andrew; and great grandchildren Hannah and Gabe.
Lorraine was predeceased by her son Gordon (1973), granddaughter Madeline (2012) and her husband Stuart of 64 years (2013).
Lorraine was an avid gardener and together with Stu created beautiful gardens at their Taulbut Street home. Lorraine loved to read, and at the 'empty nest' stage of her life enjoyed working at the Mission Library. Card playing was a regular activity, and the Hood family home was a welcoming destination for extended family and friends.
A wonderful setting, fresh baked goods, home cooked meals with a glass of wine, and a welcoming smile. For many years Lorraine's leisure time included knitting needles, always a project on the go for a loved one in mind.
In her lifetime Lorraine was a member of the Foresters, the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Friends of the Library, where she donated her time and baking.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Abbotsford Cardio Care Clinic, Chartwell Cedarbrooke Retirement Residence and Mission Memorial Hospital for the love and care over the past years leading up to her passing.
Lorraine's ashes will be placed next to her husband Stuart at the Hatzic Cemetery in Mission. ln lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
