It is with great sadness we announce the passing of David (Dave) Inwood, our husband, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to so many. Dave passed away peacefully on the evening of July 23rd at Langley Lodge Care Home, at the age of 89.
Dave was survived by his wife Donna, his daughter Cheryl (Roger) and son Chris (Tracy), grandsons Brandon (Danika), Jordan, Tyler and Trevor (Jessica) and his great-grand daughter Bellamy. Dave was predeceased by sister Pearle Shale and twin brother William.
Dave was born August 24th 1934 in Vancouver BC to Dorothy (nee Wilson) and William Inwood. He and brother Bill were very proud of being true Vancouverites. Dave always loved to share stories about growing up in Vancouver and the history of the city. He was a natural athlete his entire life. As a young man, among other sports, he played soccer on many different teams. And as a sprinter in the Vancouver Olympic Club he travelled to Toronto to try out for the Canadian Olympic team.
Dave joined the Canadian Air Force in his 20’s where he met Donna, in 1959, when stationed in Downsview, Ontario. Shortly after, they began their nearly 65-year love story when they were married. Dave and Donna would move back to Vancouver, where he would begin a 35 year career with Canada Post and eventually moved to Surrey to start and raise their family.
Dave continued playing soccer into his 30’s and would eventually coach his son as well as other young players in the sport. As a Papa, he was a very familiar face at the soccer pitch and hockey rinks, where you would see him cheering on his grandsons at their games.
Dave remained active right into his golden years. He walked a brisk 3 miles every day and took up carpet bowling at the Delta Senior Centre and at the Langley Senior Resources Centre.
Dave was an outgoing, friendly and chatty guy. From all the friendships he formed in his school years, Jake Jantzen and, later, wife Sheila, would remain lifelong friends. A large part of Dave and Donna’s social life was square and round dancing with longtime friends, Sue and Charlie Layer. They joined the Tunnel Twirlers Dance Club, where they formed a new and long-lasting friendship, with caller and instructor, Burt and June Harvey. Dave and Donna would enjoy their retired years traveling, having weekly card games, and socializing with their friends. Later, after moving to their home in Langley, they made many new friends in their small townhouse community.
Dave loved talking to anyone, and everyone loved talking to him. He had a fantastic sense of humour and always left every person he talked to smiling when he walked away. Among many other things, he especially loved gardening, camping and going to Disneyland with his family. Dave’s family meant everything to him, he was a true family man. He will always be remembered for his amazing smile and that twinkle in his eye.
The family would like to say a very heartfelt thank you to his caregivers, especially those in Langley Lodge. Thank you for caring so much for Dave and always keeping him comfortable and smiling.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a donation in Dave’s memory, to the Langley Lodge Care Home.
There will be a private family gathering at a later date.
