Mary dedicated her life to her children. She had a generous heart and was known to many as a second mother and loved caring for others. Cooking brought Mary immense joy and was her way of showing and sharing her love.
She was a talented artist with a passion for painting and spending time with her beloved dog Harley James.
She is survived by her siblings Holly Hargis, Wayne Smith, Holice E. Smith Jr., and Chris Smith; daughter and son-in-law Charity and Doug Place, daughter Jennifer Mink, son Jared Akridge and his wife Carla May Paré; four grandchildren Hunter Messer, Kayla Messer Russell, Alexandria (Alex) Laszlo, and Will Place; and three great grandchildren Jackson, Kylie, and Evelyn.
Mary will be laid to rest near her parents Holice Eugene and Evelyn Spriggs Smith, and beloved aunt Frankie Pauline Maples at Berry Highland Memorial. A graveside service will be held at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919, on Saturday, November 25 at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Second Harvest Food Bank in her honor.
