Elizabeth "Betty" McCarthy, age 77, of Townsend, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2017 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Education was very important to her. She pursued her education later in life at Kent State University in Ohio. She loved the outdoors, which brought her to the Smokey Mountains. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elizabeth Finn; and brother, Robert Finn. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ron McCarthy; children, Susan Jones (Charles), Kathy Crowder (Monty McKee), Lisa Skean (Tim); grandchildren, Tiffani (Kenny), Tanner, Max, Oscar, Ellie, Charlie, and Evie; great-granddaughter, Emma Grace; sister, Millie Geister (Peter); and niece, Wendy Geister (Marcus Woolf). The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 1:00-2:00pm at Sherwood Chapel and Memorial Gardens, with a graveside service to follow.
