Dr. Arturo Garcia went to be with our Lord, on a bright, sunny day, July 8, 2019. He was 78 years old, and this last fight would prove to be his most difficult. He will be remembered for his quick wit, generous heart, joyous sense of humor, and his fearless way of approaching life. He was a veteran of the Army and Air Force National Guard, a cowboy through and through, his wife’s vaquero, her love, and she was his Reina. He was a proud member of the Rotary club, an equestrian, and dog lover. Geronimo was his horse. He was a philanthropist that had numerous charities that he donated to monthly. He was a devoted 49er fan who owned all of the 49er accoutrement that he could find. He attended Northern Arizona University, but earned his Ed.D from Brigham Young University. He would lure unsuspecting poker players to a game of Texas Hold ‘Em and then win the pot with his wily skills. Art was patriotic; he had Old Glory proudly displayed. He was quick to share his beautiful smile and ham it up for family photographs. He was born on February 1st, 1941 in Flagstaff, Arizona on a bright, sunny day; thus, his passing comes full circle. He leaves us with the warm memories that only a bright, sunny day can deliver.
He is survived by his most beloved wife Rita Garcia; and their five children - Gloria Garcia, Arturo Garcia Jr and wife Barbara, Barbara Garcia and husband Robert, Deborah Peak and husband Errol, Christina Garcia and husband Mark, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, his sister Lena Baca and many nieces, nephews, and too many friends to name.
Services will be held July 12th at 9:00 am at Shrine of Saint Bernadette, 11509 Indian School Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112.
Reception to follow at 13208 Princess Jeanne Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112.
