Richard Grant Clark “Daddy Rich” was born April 21, 1934 in Fayetteville, Tennessee to William and Ollie Mae “Stone” Clark. On January 1, 1955 Richard G. Clark marred Betty Ann Snoddy in Russellville, Georgia. After moving to Michigan he stayed in Flint, MI for a short while, and the relocated to Albion, MI. Where he found his church home and joined Lewis Chapel A.M.E church.
Richard was employed as a Mill Wright at Hayes-Albion Corp. “Malleable" and served as a union steward. Richard retired in 1999 after 35 years of dedicated service where he had perfect attendance.
Richard served in the Army beginning in November 1954 and was honorably discharged in November 1957. Over the years Richard has been awarded with a host of certificates and acknowledgements ranging with Steward Certificate, Outstanding Volunteer, Kids of Hope Outstanding leader, Forks Award, Sportsmanship Award, Dedication service for Lewis Chapel for 57 years, merit awards and most recent 2018 Greater Jackson Bowling USBC Hall of Fame.
At his church home Lewis chapel he was the longest serving Steward Emeritus for over 30 years, he also served as a trustee , Sunday school Superintendent, Male Chorus Officer, Transportation Ministry Driver, Lewis Chapel soft ball team coach and also 5th Sunday fellowship choir president.
Richard Loved playing sports as well as coaching sports. He coached for fast pitch girl at rice creek, Albion recreation women’s league at Ketchum Field. He loved to Bowl and was apart of the Mens Bowling League and was the secretary of the bowling league as well as for the golf league in Marshall, MI and Homer, MI. He achieved many accomplishments and had 3 Championships while playing the sports of football, baseball and basketball and bowling.
Richard made his transition peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Wednesday March 6, 2019. He leaves to cherish his memory: his only Daughter Vicky Clark, six grandchildren LaPree S. Gamble, Aundrea L. (Michael) Frost, Mika A. (Carlos) Medlock, Alpha N. Clark, La Shawna J. Ross and William G. Ross. Eleven great grandchildren. One brother Walter L. Clark of Albion, MI. A host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Proceeding him in death were his parents William and Ollie Mae (Stone) Clark, His wife Betty Ann Clark, Three brothers and only Sister Virginia (sis) Sutton, Roy Clark, Charles Clark and Odie Clark.
Richard will be missed he touched the lives of so many and has been a patriarch, well respected Christian, mentor and friend, to all who was blessed with his presence.
Richard's family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, March 12th from 2PM until the start of family hour at 5PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion, MI. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Lewis Chapel A.M.E. Church at 2PM, 522 West Center St., Albion with Rev. Donald C. Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Albion Memory Gardens.
