Joan "Jackie" Blondell Hill

Joan “Jackie” Blondell Hill was born in Albion, Michigan on November 13, 1934 to the union of Joseph and Odessa Snyder. Jackie was the second of four children born to this union. Living a life where love is at its best when shared, Jackie impacted everyone she touched.

After completing her education, Jackie went on to work in the healthcare sector of Battle Creek, Michigan at Leila Hospital as a patient care technician and, later on, as a home health caregiver in Albion, Michigan. As a devoted mother of eight, her nurturing care for her children and the entire neighborhood was unparalleled. Her compassionate demeanor and ability to be a friend to the friendless has served Jackie well as she participated in the Vogue Social Club and the Matrons Christian Club at Lewis Chapel AME. She took great pride in her ability lend a helping hand or even cook “mighty good” meal for those in need.

Constantly surrounded by friends and family, anyone who entered into Jackie’s presence knew that they were instantly and thoroughly loved. She fought a valiant fight and peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on October 11, 2021 surrounded by family. Jackie leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Gergory Etchison, Harold Etchison, Merrell Etchison, Yvonne “Dee Dee” (Lee) Norwood, Ronda “Lynn” Hill, and Johnny Hill; her devoted sisters Florence “Poochie” Etchison-Truss and Patsy “Pat” (Moses) Snyder-Lewis; special nephews and nieces Robin (Kelli) Etchison, Darshann (Bobby) Stevenson, Leah (Allen) Harris, Tina Etchison, and Marc Ware; 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews; special friends George Craig, Gina Tate, Sidra Redmond-Brown, Janyth Clark, Pam Brown, Dr. Mark Milton, IDMR, Johnny and Mertis Morris, and Min. Lester and Janice Covington; and an innumerable count of additional special friends and family members spanning several generations.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Odessa Snyder, former spouses Robert Etchison and John Hill, Sr., her sons Anthony “Tony” Etchison and Michael “Mike” Etchison, her sister Mary Ann Patterson, special friend Jackie Williams, and her loving granddaughter Jacquelynn Norwood.
