April 24, 1918 in Marengo Township to Charles and Cora (Reagle) Elyea. George graduated
from Marshall High School in 1936. He served in the Army in World War II, serving in
France and Germany. He was Honorably discharged in 1947. George was a member of the
V.F.W. Post #4073.
George spent his working years in the retail food business. In 1936 he went to work for
A & P Tea Company in Battle Creek. He worked up to manage stores in Michigan and
Indiana. In 1954 he joined Felpausch Food Centers as manager of their second store in
Albion. He worked in many management levels and after 25 years he retired in 1979, as
Senior Vice President of Operations.
On October 6, 1940 he married Virginia (Zull) Elyea. They raised their children, worshiped
together, traveled and played golf. She went to be with her Lord and Savior in 1999,
after 59 years of a loving marriage.
George is survived by:
Son- Larry (Judy) Elyea of Centerville, VA
Daughter- Jan Elyea of Marshall
Son-in-law- Wayne Bartlett of Shelby
(7) Grandchildren
(9) Great Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by a daughter Judy Bartlett, an infant daughter, a sister and
four brothers.
George was a very private person and his family was his number one priority. He felt it
was his right to choose the manner in which his death arrangements be made. It was
his desire to not have a funeral and his interment in private.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for Memorial Contributions to Oaklawn Hospice is
available at the funeral home.
