Dorothy was born on January 1, 1930 in Albion, Michigan and was the third child and only daughter of
William and Lucille Tucker.
Dorothy attended public school in Albion and graduated from high school in 1948. As a teenager, she joined the Macedonia Baptist church that members of her family attended and she actively participated in church youth programs.
A year after graduating from high school she met and married Sadd Pierce Jackson in July of 1949. Sadd Jackson had lived in Austin, Texas and was in college when he was drafted to enter the Army during World War II. While in the Army he met and became friends with Tom Curtis and on their discharge, Sadd decided to go to Albion and work in the factory there, which was paying high wages, and he lived with the Curtis family. In that way he met Dorothy and soon they were married.
Jackson’s parents advised him to return with his new wife to Austin, Texas and complete his college education and become a teacher in the school system there where his parents taught and so they moved to Austin where Sadd taught at the high school and was coach of their championship swim team. They had one son Darrell L. Jackson, and they were active in community and political affairs. Also during those years they hosted several Curtis Family reunions is which large numbers of family members attended from many parts of the nation and Canada.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband who died in 2003, and by her parents William (1941) and Lucille Tucker (1956). Also by her brothers Charles, William Jr., Frederick, and Hendrick. She is survived by her son Darrell and a granddaughter LaMonica of Austin, Texas, and by an Uncle Dr. James Curtis and two Aunts Gertrude and Essie as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends in Albion, Michigan.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1010 Chauncey Street, Albion, Michigan 49224 with Family Hour starting at 10AM prior to the service with Pastor Bobby McKenzie officiating.
Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Albion.
