Roger Michael Johnson, 72, of Rancho Santa Fe, California, passed away on October 26, 2024. Born on September 7, 1952, in Akron, Ohio, Roger was the son of Orris and Hester Johnson and the brother of Barry Johnson, who preceded him in death.
A proud graduate of Ohio State University, Roger earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer and Information Science from the College of Engineering. In the 1970s, he moved to California, where he embarked on a successful career as a software engineer, working for companies such as NCR, T-Mobile, and various tech startups. His professional journey allowed him to travel extensively, both nationally and internationally, enriching his life with diverse experiences all over the world.
Roger was known for gentle kindness and his love of friends and family. He is survived by his sister, Kay Johnson; nephew, David (Melissa) Musil; niece, Amy (Sterling) Smith; great nephew, Colton; great niece, Kimber; and many dear friends. Roger cherished moments spent playing golf with friends, enjoying pickleball, and walking with his beloved dog, Heidi.
A memorial service to celebrate Roger’s life will be held in California. He will be laid to rest alongside his brother and parents at Rose Hill Burial Park in Fairlawn, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Roger’s memory, honoring his love for animals.
