Chang Dae (also known by his baptized name, Paul) Han, age 85, passed away on July 25, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Kitty Han. Paul was born in Wonsan, Korea and came to the U.S. for graduate studies.
Paul received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Seoul National University, a Master of Science and a Doctor of Science (ScD) in Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After working in industry for four years, at American Cyanamid Company and then at Esso Research and Engineering Company, Paul chose to pursue an academic career by accepting the position of Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, where over the course of 27 years he went on to become Full Professor, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Director of Polymer Science and Engineering Program and University Professor. Paul then accepted the position of Benjamin Franklin Goodrich Endowed Professor of Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron, where he taught and conducted research until his retirement in 2012.
Paul published over 300 original research articles, coauthored with his doctoral students in various refereed scientific journals, graduated 52 doctoral students and published three research monographs during his academic career.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kitty, son Peter (wife Kathy), son John (wife Luisa), daughter Cecilia and five grandchildren, Patricia, Christopher, Stephanie, Stephen and Cameron.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 2:00 PM. to 6:00 PM at Rose-Hill Funeral Home, 3653 West Market Street, Fairlawn, OH 44333. The funeral service will occur Monday, August 2, 2021 at 10:30 AM, 3653 West Market Street, Fairlawn, OH 44333. A committal service will occur Monday, August 2, 2021 at Rose-Hill Burial Park, 3653 West Market Street, Fairlawn, OH 44333.
