Nick was born on June 29, 1942 in Bari, Italy to Dominic and Adelaide Soranno. He immigrated to Akron, Ohio in 1955 and learned English while attending Archbishop Hoban High School. He left school to support his family after his mother passed away. He designed and built his first custom home when he was 18 years old. He was a master carpenter and self-taught architect. He was the co-owner of Tiffany Construction/Builders with his brother Carlo and brother-in-law Joe Guarnieri, and then started Nick Soranno Builders/Soranno Builders. One of his proudest professional accomplishments was when he was awarded Best Home of the Year in 1973. Nick met his wife Joyce (nee Proffitt) while building her parents’ home. They were married on December 23, 1972 and spent 50 years together before her recent passing in August 2022.
Nick became a US citizen in 1976. He was an avid sports fan and loved to cheer on the Cleveland Browns, The Ohio State Buckeyes and all the Cleveland teams. He loved to play pranks and pitched in with his children’s school functions and community service. He dearly loved his Giant Schnauzers and could often be seen with them somehow sitting on his lap or laying on top of him.
