MaryLou Thornton, age 84, of Akron, passed away March 27, 2011. MaryLou was born in in Akron, December 30, 1926 and graduated from Garfield High School. She was respected business owner for over 30 years and a member of the Eastern Star Billow Chapter 483. MaryLou was preceded in death by her parents Ernest Clare and Gladys Ruth Bonham, her sister Donna Mae Leigh and her eldest daughter Miki Lynnette Simpkins. MaryLou leaves behind her loving and dedicated husband of over 60 years, Raymond A. Thornton, her sisters Ernestine Knotts and Jane McCauley, daughters Billie (Harvey) Esterle, Nancy (Rick) Smith, Laura “Lolly” (Dan) Dickson and son Russell (Renee) Thornton. MaryLou will also be missed by her 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren who adored “Granny’s” stories, songs and rhymes.
She was loved by all who entered her life and was always willing to help those in need. MaryLou’s favorite saying was words she lived by “everything begins and ends with family”. Family will receive friends Wednesday March 30, form 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Catavolos Funeral Home 3653 W. Market St. Fairlawn, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11am. Burial will be at Rose Hill Burial Park.
