Mary Frances Matthews

She was employed by and retired from AT&T. Mary was a member of the Pioneers Club, and LeBron James Grandmother’s Club. She was an avid musician playing both the piano and organ. Mary was also a member of the Livingstone Apostolic Church.

Mary met and married her “Soul Mate” Grady Matthews, Sr. at a young age and remained his devoted wife for more than 65 years at the time of his death. To this union was born two children, Gladys Louise and Grady, Jr. This rich legacy of love extended to the addition of three daughters, Anita Cummins, Patricia Harris, and Wendy Scurry and two sons Bryant and Roy Cummins.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother Katherine Cummins; brother Joseph Johnson; sisters Betty Fuller, Ruth Jones, Catherine Burrell, Ann Bowers-Jones, Shirley Roberts and Beverly McCormick.

She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Gladys Louise Matthews of Columbus, Georgia; son Grady Matthews, Jr., (Jessie) of Akron, Ohio; daughters Anita Cummins, Patricia Harris (Willie), and Wendy Scurry all of Akron, Ohio. Grandchildren Deborah Faust and Grady Matthews, III; great grandson Keenan Matthews and a host of other relatives.

Mary also leaves to cherish her memory the church families of Livingstone Apostolic Church in Akron, Ohio and Body of Christ Worship Center in Columbus, Georgia.

Homegoing Service will be Tuesday, July 25th, at 12:00 PM at Living Stone Apostolic Church 587 S Arlington Rd. Akron, OH 44306; where the family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of service. Interment Rose Hill Burial Park.
