John A. Michaels, beloved husband, father and Papou passed away peacefully October 9th. He was born April 17, 1929 to George and Kaliope Michalaros in Haverhill Massachusetts. He was the patriarch of his family; and although a long time resident of Sharon Township in Medina County, he was a life-long Akron area home builder, developer and restaurateur. With his brothers, Arthur and Andrew, he developed retail plazas such as the Ghent Plaza in Fairlawn and the Northampton Square Plaza in Cuyahoga Falls, as well as other properties throughout the greater Akron area. His businesses included Michaels Building Company, the Bread and Thread Restaurant and Clothier, Fife & Drum and Yasoo restaurants. He was one of the original founders of the Hamburger Station restaurants and worked with his sons Art and Frank and his nephew John in their development of their On Tap Grille and Bar restaurants. His son Frank has also followed in his footsteps as a home builder.
He goes on to join his parents George and Kaliope; brothers Arthur and Andrew; and sister Andigoni. He leaves behind, with many loving memories, his wife Sally; sons Arthur (Kim) and Frank (Colleen); step-children Todd (Christine) and Carrie; grandchildren Amy, Nicole, Delaney, Kennedy, Shelby, Abigail; and many nieces and nephews.
