A memorial service is planned for March 5 at 3:00 p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, Texas 79606 with Pastor Malcom Johnson officiating. The family will receive guest for a visitation beginning at 2:00 pm until the time of service.
Paul was born on June 30, 1933, to J.W. and Orene Shytles in Wichita Falls, Texas. On January 22, 1955, he married the love of his life, Mary Louise Johnson, in Wichita Falls, and together, they shared 67 years of marriage.
Paul worked for Lone Star Gas for 43 years. Paul was a member and deacon at the former Westside Baptist Church. He was a member of Elmwood Baptist at the time of his passing.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Orene Shytles, his in-laws, Louis and Pauline Johnson, his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and H.B. Hamilton, brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Sarah Shytles, sister-in-law, Linda Ramsey, brother-in-law, James Bunton, brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Louise Skelton.
Paul is survived by his wife, Mary Shytles, his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Kim Shytles of Abilene, daughter, Sandy Chapman and son-in-law, Lynn Chapman of Abilene, his grandson, Cody Chapman and his sweetheart, Veronica Jones, of Amarillo, great-grandson, Reese Chapman, sister, Johnnie Bunton, brother-in-law, Jack Ramsey, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patsy and Jimmie McGhee, sister-in-law, Peggy Moore and numerous nieces and nephews.
Paul loved his kids, Randy and Sandy, but once he met the grands, the kids were “2nd fiddle”. Paul was a wonderful grandpa and great-grandpa and absolutely adored his grandson, Cody and great-grandson, Reese.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to Hendrick Home for Children, 2758 Jeannette, Abilene, Texas 79602.
