Nancy married William Riley “Gene” Smith on June 24, 1950. They were married for over 51 years. Nancy worked for Taylor County as a Veteran Service Benefit Counselor. She retired in 1993. Nancy was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. She had an unwavering faith and love for the Lord. One of her most treasured accomplishments was being “Yaya” to her Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren. One of the things she enjoyed was spending time with her family, and she especially enjoyed having coffee with her children every morning.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene, a daughter Nancy Karen Smith, sisters Artie Watson, Opal Howard, Jewel Howard, Onita Lee, and Joyce Comeaux.
Nancy is survived by her sister, Nelda Lindley; daughter, Jan Dukes and her husband Ray; her son, Gary Smith; daughter, Brenda Smith and her husband Kenny; Grandchildren, Cody Slatton and wife Darcie, Leslie Anderson, Gina Gaither and husband Josiah, Melissa Hoetger and husband Daniel, Kayli Smith, and Kristi Rodriguez and husband Luke; Great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kelby, Kyler and Kamdyn Gaither, Callie and Brylee Slatton, Ellie, Wayland and Liam Hoetger, and Lucas, Landon and Kinsley Rodriguez; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Cody Slatton, Josiah Gaither, Daniel Hoetger, Mark Smith, Jamy Smith and Mark Samford. Honorary Pallbearers are Kelby Gaither, Robert Gleason, Alan Miller, Abel Covarrubias and Donnie Nelson.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 8, 2021 from 5-7 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 US Hwy 277 S.
Graveside services will be on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 2 PM at Drummond Cemetery officiated by Dr. Jeff Reid.
