A celebration of life will occur at 10:00 am on Monday, December 27, 2021 in the chapel of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 Hwy. 277 S. in Abilene. An interment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation for Kenneth will be held at 9:00 AM on Monday until the time of service in the funeral homes chapel.
Kenneth was born on April 2, 1932 in Holliday, Texas to James Clarence Whisenant and Beulah Mae Segler. He was the youngest of five children. Kenneth was raised on a farm near Valley View with his four brothers and sisters. He loved animals and acquired a solid work ethic from his parents as he helped his father with his business. He attended school in Valley View and Holliday, Texas and later continued his studies in Petroleum related subjects at Texas A & M University and Hardin Simmons University.
Kenneth married Mary Sue Scales on July 28, 1951 in Abilene, Texas. He served in the Army as a Military Police in Aberdeen, Maryland. After his honorable discharge from the army, Kenneth returned to Abilene to work for a local drilling company.
In 1964, he started KW Well Service. He became one of the leading reentry specialists in the area, as published in Drill Bit Magazine in 1980. He retired from the well servicing business in 1995 and began operating wells.
Kenneth was always in close contact with his brother, three sisters and their families and enjoyed getting together with them. He loved cooking family meals on the grill.
During his retirement, Kenneth enjoyed traveling with family and friends, listening to country music on road trips with his wife, watching westerns, eating breakfast at the Dixie Pig and playing dominoes. One of his favorite joys this past year was observing his great-grandchildren play from a nearby armchair with a smile.
Kenneth was admired and loved by many for his generous and gentle demeanor. His trust and care for others made him a natural at offering a helping hand to those in need.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, James Clarence Whisenant and Beulah Whisenant Baker, his brother Raymond Franklin Whisenant and his sisters, Lola Mae Wisdom and Margaret Lucille Thomas.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Sue Whisenant; his sister, Mary Lou Harris; two children, Mary Patrice McIntyre (Robert), Gary Russell Whisenant (Rhonda); four grandchildren, Christine McIntyre Faulkner (Michael), Richard Whisenant McIntyre (Courtney) Eric Nicholas Whisenant and Cameron Dorcie Whisenant; six great-grandchildren, James McIntyre Faulkner, William Moore Faulkner, Daniel Robert Faulkner, Wesley Strait McIntyre, Connor Davis McIntyre, Claire Diane McIntyre and numerous nieces and nephews.
