Joey was born on March 19, 1992, in Ozark, Alabama. He was the youngest of three sons born to Terence Dennis Sherman, Jr. and Velara Arlene (Smith) Sherman. At the age of six his family moved to Texas. From that point on Joey was an official Texan. He attended schools in AISD and eventually graduated from Abilene High School. His first and only child Eloise “Ellie” Velara was born in 2013. Becoming a father was life changing for him. He embarked on a career in the oil field following his brother and like most things he did he struck success. He went onto work for Broadwind where he was a CWI.
Ever since he was a child Joey loved, collecting whatever he was into at the time. He also loved selling his collections and trading. Consequently, after many years he fulfilled his dream of opening, Ellie's Video Games & Collectibles. Joey was the epitome of an entrepreneur. He lived for the rush of taking risk. He loved being at Ellie’s and in a short time made genuine connections with his customers who became friends. The only thing to take him away from the store was to spend time with his daughter. He enjoyed riding his Harley, skateboarding and NASCAR memorabilia. Joey was an animal lover especially his two dogs, Griz and Luna.
He will be remembered for his savvy way of making things happen. No matter what challenges came his caring and genuine side always shined through. He was always there to help those he cared about. He was thoughtful in special ways.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Marvin Smith.
