Jane Britain Williamson Gray, 82, passed away June 11, 2013 in Abilene. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2013 in Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene.
Jane was born February 6, 1931, in Abilene, Texas, to Howell Eugene Britain and Bernice Rainbolt Britain. She was the second of two daughters. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1948 and attended McMurry College for two years, then took a break in her education to marry and have children.
She gave birth to three children and was a stay-at-home mom until 1965. She re-entered McMurry College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1968. She began teaching school in 1968 and retired from the Abilene Independent School District in 1993.
She married Gordon Gray on October 10, 1981, and they had a wonderful life together until his passing in 2012. They enjoyed traveling, entertaining their friends, and playing bridge. She also volunteered as a docent at the Grace Museum and was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Abilene.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Gray; and her son, Ric Williamson. She is survived by daughter, Julie Gilliland of Fort Worth, TX; son, Steve Williamson of Midland, TX; sister, Patricia Britain of Austin, TX; two step-sons, Donald Gray of Denver, CO, and Bob Gray of Albuquerque, NM; nine grandchildren, Melissa Meyer of Weatherford, TX, Katherine Strange of Houston, TX, Bonnie Bowles of Denver, CO, Gentry Rust of Fort Worth, TX, Grant Williamson of Houston, TX, Sara Teegarden of Weatherford, TX, Megan Rust of Austin, TX, Heather English of Aspermont, TX, and Charli Rust of Fort Worth, TX; and eleven great-grandchildren with two on the way.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jane’s name to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research.
