Isabel Diaz Martinez, 68, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2013, at a local medical center in Abilene. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Msgr. Frederick Nawarskas officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory, Abilene, TX. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7p.m., with rosary at 7p.m. at the funeral home.
Isabel was born December 19, 1944 in Abilene and was a long-time resident of Abilene. She attended Houston Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School, and Abilene High School. She graduated from Abilene Commercial College. After graduating, she started working at Merchants Fast Motor Lines as an auditor/collector and worked there for 30 years. In 1999 she retired and became a homemaker.
She was called "momo" by her grandchildren and she enjoyed spending time with them. Isabel also loved to cook and go shopping with her daughters. She was the sister that carried the family in times of need. Isabel was a devoted Catholic and was a long time parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, where she was involved in the Pony Express and taught religious education.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Reyes Diaz; and a sister, Rosa Diaz.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Martinez of Abilene; two daughters, Elizabeth Pallarez and Angie Gallardo both of Abilene; two brothers, Augustine and Edward Diaz of Abilene; five sisters, Dora Ruvalcaba of Ft. Worth, Cecilia Hambrick and Lupe Diaz of Abilene, Ramona Morel of San Jose, CA, and Anita Diaz of Odessa; grandchildren, Adriana Martinez, Alex Gallardo, Tristin Pallarez, and Isabella Pallarez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all of the doctors, nurses and staff of the Intensive Care Unit at Hendrick Medical Center.
