Our beautiful, classy, and most gracious mother, Idella James, was called home on Friday, February 4th, by our heavenly Father. A kind, wise, God fearing woman, she was respected and loved by all whose lives her life graced. Idella was born on November 6, 1916 to Ola B. (Thomas) and Ivory Young Davenport.
At 94 years old, Idella still possessed zest for life and an unfaltering love for her God, children, family, and friends. She confessed Christ at a very early age and was baptized into His Body and remained faithful until death. Sister James was the oldest member of North Tenth and Treadaway Church of Christ. Idella touched many lives and will most certainly be missed by all of us; however, her memory will live forever in our hearts, because her spirituality and Christianity are her legacy.
Preceded in death by her husband, Ruben James, Sr., and two sons, Ruben James II and Bobby James, Idella leaves her five daughters ~~~ Doris {John} Dansby of Shreveport; Margaret Ferguson of Abilene; Sandra Grubbs of Boston; Mary Dansby of Abilene; and Annette Bell of Ft. Worth. Idella also leaves behind five sons ~~~ DeWayne {Irene} James of Syracuse, Joe {Bernice} James of Los Angeles, Edward James of Abilene, Timothy {Audrey} James of Abilene, and Robert James of Abilene; 40 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a grand host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and an extended family ~~~ Jeff Sandefer of Austin; Julie Sandefer Hagey of Austin; and Laurie Sandefer of Mexico.
