Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2012, at Primera Iglesia Baptista, 442 North Treadaway, Abilene, with Margarito Barboza officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Elvira was born on April 3, 1917 to Manuel and Paula Barboza in Loan, Texas. She married V. Lopez on January 15, 1947 in Ciudad Acuna, Mexico. After their marriage, they moved to Rotan, Texas where they lived and farmed until December 1969. She and her three children, Minerva, Evangelina, and Jesus Jr. (Jessie) were members of Sardis Baptist Church. The family next moved to Abilene, and she had been a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista since January 1970. She loved praying, reading, singing, sewing, and gardening.
Elvira was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Paula Barboza; her husband, Jesus V. Lopez; and brothers, Alonzo Barboza, Diego Barboza, and Pablo Barboza.
Survivors include two daughters, Minerva Cortez and husband, Steve, of Lubbock, Texas and Evangelina Darden and husband, Richard, of Abilene, Texas; one son, Jessie Lopez of Abilene, Texas; Mary and Richard Marrow of Rising Star, Texas; two sisters, Ruth Lopez and Emma Gallegos and husband, Benjamin, of Fort Worth; two brothers, Daniel Barboza and wife, Julia, Emimelech Barboza and wife, Rosa, of Fort Worth, Texas; numerous grandchildren, Timothy Cortez, Mark Lopez, Esther Lopez, Nicholas Lopez, Freddie Perales, Maxine and Kerry Hill, and Michael and Rebecca Perales; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends, Antonio and Angelina Flores, Domingo and Tana Trevino, The Barboza Families, The Flores Families, and The Lopez Families.
Honorary pallbearers will be Freddie Perales, Michael Perales, Juan Lopez, Rollie Cantu, Jesus Rios, and Carlos Rios.
The family would like to give special thanks to Hendrick Hospice Care and to the many devoted friends and church members for their care and support to our family during this time of her home-going.
