Betty Sue Hastings, 72, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 in Abilene. A celebration of life will be held at 2pm on Saturday, July 15, 2017 in Drummond Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a visitation Friday, July 14, 2017 from 6 to 8pm at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South.
Mrs. Hastings was born in Abilene on March 20, 1945 to J.L. Smith and Edwina Shumate Smith.
Betty married Stanley Ray Hastings on January 28, 1963 in Buffalo Gap, Texas. She was employed and retired from the Department of Public Safety.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 52 years, Stanley; her parents; and a brother, Joe Kenneth Smith.
Survivors include daughter, Debbie Adkins and husband, Rick; granddaughter, Jessica Stephenson and husband, Brian; three great-grandchildren, Logan, Morrigan, and Corbin Compton; brothers-in-law, Carol Hastings and wife, Peggy and Leland Hastings and wife, Sarah; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Hart, and Sarah Thomas and husband, Stan; as well as a nephew and a niece.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elm Creek Baptist Church, 6110 FM 89 Tuscola, TX 79562.
