Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1401 Grape Street. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2011, at the funeral home.
Anne was born on July 5, 1941 to Laura and Ansel Graves in Fort Morgan, Colorado. She was married to John “Jack” Ellis Bargelski on May 20, 1962 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They moved to Abilene from Yakota AFB Japan due to Jack’s assignment at Dyess AFB in 1971. Mrs. Bargelski attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska from 1959-1961 and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1976. Anne was a special education teacher at Hawley ISD for 8 years and later taught at the Abilene State School for 3 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Laura and Ansel Graves, as well as her husband Jack.
Survivors include one daughter and two sons, Laura Alvarez of Abilene, John Bargelski of Abilene, and Daniel Ratchen of Portland Oregon; son-in-law, John Alvarez and daughter-in-law, Terri Ratchen; one cousin and his wife, John and Virginia Nickelsen of Shafter, California; eleven grandchildren, Brandon, Tarah, Leah, Amanda, and Saranda Alvarez, Joshua, Samantha, Shayla, and Dustin Glaze, and Nathan and Andrew Ratchen. Great-grandchildren include Marcus and Matthew Acosta, Hope Arrazola, Valentin “Bean” Olvera, Trevon and Roy Glaze, and Holden Teague.
The family would like to thank those who helped care for Anne over the last year of her life: Bryce and Sharon Anders, Sue Gibson, and all the wonderful caregivers at Bethel Suites Homecare.
