Surjit Singh Tiwana was born on August 8, 1922 in the village of Lassoi, in the Sangrur district of Punjab in India. He first came to Canada in 1970 and settled in Mission, BC, where he made his home for many years to come. He worked as a farm labourer for a number of years after coming to Canada. He enjoyed walking as every day was an adventure, leaving in the morning and returning in the evenings.
Surjit leaves behind his wife, Jangir Kaur, 5 children, Nirmal Singh, Gurmail Singh, Gurdev Singh, Harjinder Kaur, and Gurjant Singh; 13 grandchildren, Karmjit, Lakbhir, Sarbjit, Paramjit, Gurtej, Jagroop, Harpreet, Ramandeep, Gurpreet, Amrinder, Bhagwant, Gurdeep and Manpreet; and 7 great-grandchildren, Herman, Parneet, Gerneer, Tanvir, Jaskeert, Jayven and Gurraj and their extended families.
Surjit Singh Tiwana passed away peacefully at the age of 87 at Abbotsford Regional Hospital with family at his side.
