Peter Charles Currie passed away sometime before the morning of July 8, 2021. He passed away suddenly but peacefully while he was sleeping at his home in Whitehorse. He is survived by his son, Toby Coomans; his stepson, Jerrid Hozak; his father, Francis (Bob) Currie (Kiss); brothers Richard (Luella), David (Queenie), and Robert (Trish Watson); half-brothers Mark, and Robert Eric; and granddaughter, Ariel Coomans.
Peter was born in Vancouver, BC, and lived most of his early childhood in St. Marys, Ontario. His life was altered when his parents separated in 1958. His mother became a teacher, and in 1960, with her children, moved to Niagara Falls, Ontario, where the family lived for six years, before coming to London, Ontario. Peter finished high school at London Central Secondary School in 1970.
He completed a two-year Geology diploma program at Cambrian College in Sault St. Marie, and then served with the Canadian Armed Forces in Esquimalt, BC from 1973 to 1975. He eventually became a welder by trade and settled in Whitehorse, Yukon. He called Whitehorse home for 35 years.
It was in Whitehorse that he met his wife, and love of his life, Irene Shorty. They lived together for almost 10 years until Irene passed away from a chronic lung disease in November 2000.
Peter is warmly remembered by friends and family, as someone who had a big heart and a great compassion for people.
