Our parents are together again. Joan Camilla Marie Bradshaw, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 28, 2023. Mom was born in Port Arthur, Ont, and moved to Abbotsford, BC as a young girl. She met the love of her life, Ray, through her older brother and was married in May, 1954. Mom and Dad lived their early years in Richmond, had a brief stint in Whitehorse before moving to North Vancouver. When Dad retired from the Federal Government they moved back to Abbotsford for their “golden years”.
Mom worked for many years as a Foster Parent with lots of babies moving through our home. It was a common practice for Dad to come home from work to find a little one on the table in their cuddle seat and Mom spooning pablum into them. Dad would laugh and say he was never sure how many kids he would have from day to day. Once she retired as a Foster, she worked retail in both ladies wear and home decoration. Her very favourite job was with the “Ginger Jar” in North Vancouver.
Mom is predeceased by her loving husband Ray in 2017. She is survived by her children, Marvis Owens (Rod), Craig Bradshaw (Donna), Blake Bradshaw and Valaree Braaten and Grandchildren Dustin Wilkins, Angela Bradshaw, Samantha Braaten (Lucas and Logan) Tanner Braaten (Katie) and Step-Grandchildren Julie Pratt, Jeffery Owens (Robyn) and Jennifer Yodogawa (Derek).
She is also survived by a bundle of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, her special sisters, Marvis Hayward, Elaine Lay and sister in law Lillian Perry; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom will always be remembered for her homemade soup and her love of family get-togethers. She loved nothing better than to have us all together for the holidays. So happy you are with Dad again – love you and miss you.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann’s Church in Abbotsford on April 13th, 2023. If you would like to attend, details can be found on Henderson's Funeral Home website along with a digital book of condolences.
