I have to come to know Ekaterina and her late husband Alex (passed on in 2001) as a most extraordinary couple, both of them former immigrants from WWII devastated Europe and contributing new Canadians as members of the Mennonite Church in Abbotsford, BC. They were a very social and approachable couple, encouraging and helping people in need with both broad smiles, kind words and deeds, without any expectation of thanks in return. Ekaterina and Alex, the converted atheist, were devout Christians tolerant of other faiths including mine as a reformed Buddhist. Ekaterina missed her daughter at lot who had found love and a new life in New Zealand. I am indebted to Ekaterina and to Alex and are keeping both in very fond memory.
