Dave’s life was filled with people who would remember him as one or more of the following: passionate and committed educator; consummate host; loyal and lifelong chum; aficionado of martinis and roast beef dinners.
Dave was as much at home sailing the Gold Coast and dining in the international hotels of Dubai, as he was clambering across a ranch in the Chilcotin, taking in the sunset from the porch of the cabin in Point Roberts, and conversing in front of the fire on the shores of Fletcher Lake. Similarly, he was equally energized and captivated when observing a kindergarten classroom or taking in an Abby Sr. basketball game, as he was when he was gathered with his PhD study group or hunkered down writing his dissertation. Experiencing life’s gamut was his greatest pleasure. It is, as Dave would have said, “sublime.”
Dave was predeceased by the love of his life, Margie, whom he met too late and lost too early; and his brothers Frank, Gary and Peter. He is remembered by many family members, friends and colleagues, among them his children and their spouses Mackenzie Fribance & Valerie Rome and Robin Fribance & Barry Shiffman, and grandchildren Rebecca Fribance, Lily and Zoe Shiffman, all for whom he has been a fun-loving, generous and constant parent and grandparent; and siblings Ruth Cowell, Norma Rivett and Nancy Gilmore. Dave was fortunate to have many friends, and they filled his life with joy and comradery. He took great pleasure in the people in his life, to the end of his days.
A service to remember Dave will be held on Friday, August 10 at 1:00 pm at Henderson’s Fraser Valley Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Rd, Abbotsford, BC. In his memory, Dave’s loved ones ask that you make a toast to enduring friendships lifelong and beyond. In lieu of flowers, donations to the David Shore Memorial Scholarship fund can be made at www.abbotsfordcf.org.
