About
Sunset Hills Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Bellevue, Washington, have been serving and honoring families in Bellevue, Kirkland and the Greater Eastside since 1936. Our professional teams remain dedicated to serving you with compassion and excellent service, just as we have done for generations. Together, this Bellevue funeral home and cemetery offer you the convenience of handling your funeral, cremation and burial needs all at once.
Customizable chapel
Sunset Hills Funeral Home's non-denominational chapel can be customized for each family. Bright and airy, with gray-washed wooden paneling and rib-vault ceiling, the chapel accommodates about 160 guests with modern, adjustable seating. Natural light floods into the chapel during the day.
State-of-the-art audiovisual equipment allows families to play videos or slideshows during the memorial service. If you need help with a multimedia tribute, we can assist.
Personalized tributes
Losing a loved one can be among the most challenging times in life. We are here to help you through it. All of our funeral services are designed to meet your individual needs. We strive to celebrate each life like no other.
Sunset Hills Funeral Home's dedicated funeral directors take the unique passions of a loved one and turn that inspiration into a funeral or memorial service with thoughtful and meaningful details. A celebration could include an uncle’s passion for hiking or a grandmother’s perfect pie recipe. A bluebird urn, a pony processional, takeaway putters—we can incorporate almost anything into a tribute to fit the individual.
Cremation services in Seattle
We specialize in cremation services that honor loved ones in personalized ways, and families love our transparent pricing. With expertise in scattering ashes and a friendly team who pays attention to every detail, we provide service that is second to none. And now we offer both traditional flame cremation and water cremation.
More and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burial, but most aren’t familiar with the many options:
- a cremation without a funeral or memorial service of any kind.
- a funeral with your loved one present, followed by cremation.
- a cremation followed by a scattering, cemetery memorialization or celebration of life—or all three.
For those who wish for a more momentous memorial, Neptune Memorial Reef® is an underwater cremation garden off the coast of Florida. A Celestis Memorial Spaceflight takes ashes into space for a little while or forever.
There are many cremation providers—and they're not all equal. Here's what you can expect when you choose us for your loved one's cremation:
- Custody of care guaranteed. Our custody-of-care program helps safeguard the identification of your loved one from the time we bring them into our care until the time we return them to your family. We check, cross-check and check again, every step of the way.
- Exclusive custody of your loved one. We use only crematories owned and operated by Dignity Memorial®; providers or trusted partners. Once your loved one is in our custody or that of a trusted partner, they’re in our care until they’re returned to your family.
- Licensed, certified, conscientious staff. All Dignity Memorial crematory operators are licensed and certified by Cremation Association of North America, or CANA. Only one person at a time is cremated, and the cremation chamber is thoroughly cleaned before the next person is cremated.
Now offering human composting
Human composting is an alternative to burial and cremation. Inside a vessel created especially for this purpose, organic elements, such as wood chips, mulch and wildflowers, gently transform a body into nutrient-rich soil. Your family may choose to use this soil to plant trees or flowers, or you can place it in a location meaningful to you. The remaining soil is sent to conservation land on the Olympic Peninsula to aid projects such as reforestation, improving soil health and restoring challenged ecosystems.

History
Chester “Chet” Green and his wife, Agnes, founded Green Funeral Homes in 1936. Their family operated 4 locations in Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond and North Bend, including the cemetery of Sunset Hills Memorial Park. They started in Kirkland, then expanded to Bellevue. Sunset Hills Memorial Park helped fulfill their vision of providing the finest facility and quality service in the area.
The couple built Sunset Hills on the premise that “every person, no matter what their economic station in life might be, is worthy of the complete and considerate attention and provision of all the personnel, facility and equipment the business has to provide.”
A merger in early 2005 consolidated three of the original four funeral homes into the current location at Sunset Hills Memorial Park. Today, Sunset Hills Memorial Park and Funeral Home are members of the Dignity Memorial® network, the premier provider of funeral, cremation and cemetery services in North America.
Sunset Hills Memorial Park cemetery
Sunset Hills Memorial Park is a peaceful place with beautiful views of downtown Seattle and the Olympic Mountains. Mature trees shade the cemetery’s 59 acres on hot summer days and produce magnificent displays of orange, gold and red leaves come fall. The well-landscaped cemetery also features lovely annual blooming flowers, gardens and several water features—all of which make wonderful spots for solitude.
Burial options
Sunset Hills Memorial Park offers a range of interment options for in-ground burial, as well as outdoor mausoleum complexes, columbaria, crypts, cremation niches and benches, private estates and semiprivate estates.
With their pyramid skylights, artistic stained glass and natural stone rock walls, the mausoleums at Sunset Hills Memorial Park are beautiful by themselves. However, the glass-front cremation niches make the mausoleums truly special. Unlike traditional granite tombstones that list only a person’s name and dates, these niches are personalized with items such as photographs, jewelry, artwork, perfume bottles, sports memorabilia and more, reflecting the lives they represent.
Memorial Golf Park
To many passionate golfers, paradise is spending the day on a beautiful green. Our newest cemetery development, Memorial Golf Park, memorializes the lives of avid golfers. An acre of greens offers strategically placed cremation benches, memorialization, niche walls and family columbaria with granite golfer figures. Near Memorial Golf Park is a fountain with a natural stone stream that winds its way to a small pond.
Photos convey a lot, but we invite you to see the cemetery for yourself. Please call us to set up a tour or visit anytime on your own.
Honoring veterans and public servants
Sunset Hills Funeral Home and Sunset Hills Memorial Park support military veterans, their families and public servants through two programs: Homeless Veterans Burial Program and Public Servants Program.
With help from with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, local medical examiners, coroners, veterans advocates and veterans organizations, the Homeless Veterans Burial Program was founded on the belief that every veteran deserves a dignified burial. Through the program, homeless and indigent veterans who have no family are identified and provided with proper military funerals.
Sunset Hills Memorial Park and Funeral Home also host a Memorial Day service each May. With help from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2995, we decorate Sunset Hills Memorial Park with more than 5,000 American flags. This provides a stirring backdrop to the day’s events, which include speeches, military flyovers and a dove release.
The Public Servants Program recognizes the courage and selflessness of those who serve their communities. Through the program we offer honorable burial services—at no cost—to career and volunteer law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency services personnel who fall in the line of duty. In addition, the program offers counseling services to family members and the opportunity to create an internet tribute as a loving memorial.
Compassionate Friends Worldwide
In December, we join with Compassionate Friends Worldwide for its annual candle lighting that honors the memories of the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and grandchildren who left too soon. This candle lighting started in 1997 as a small Internet observance, but it has since swelled in numbers as more and more join to commemorate children who will never be forgotten.
