• Custody of care guaranteed. Our custody-of-care program helps safeguard the identification of your loved one from the time we bring them into our care until the time we return them to your family. We check, cross-check and check again, every step of the way.
• Exclusive custody of your loved one. We use only crematories owned and operated by Dignity Memorial^® providers or trusted partners. Once your loved one is in our custody or that of a trusted partner, they’re in our care until they’re returned to your family.
• Licensed, certified, conscientious staff. All Dignity Memorial crematory operators are licensed and certified by Cremation Association of North America, or CANA. Only one person at a time is cremated, and the cremation chamber is thoroughly cleaned before the next person is cremated.

History

Our Windsor funeral home history

Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Centre originally began as H.S. Anderson Funeral Home. Located in the heart of downtown Windsor, it was founded in 1920 by Herbert Samuel Anderson and originally located in the west end of Windsor in the Towne of Sandwich. H.S. Anderson and his wife, Irma, owned and operated a furniture store directly across the street from our building. See MoreSee Less

Anderson, realizing there was a need for a funeral home in the small community, transitioned from the furniture business into the funeral industry. He attained his funeral director’s license from Banting Institute in Toronto and was among the 1st licensed funeral directors in Ontario. See MoreSee Less

Growth, expansion

As our funeral home continued to grow over the years, a larger facility became a necessity, so we moved to a larger building in downtown Windsor and also operated an ambulance service. In the 1950s, H.S. Anderson Funeral Home moved to its current location, where the family constructed a 20,000-square-foot facility. At that time, our facility was among the largest funeral home establishments in Canada. See MoreSee Less

Anderson’s sons—Ernie, Bruce, Stuart and Austin—were all raised and active in the business. It was not uncommon for the boys to be called out of school in the middle of the day to assist on funerals and ambulance runs. Bruce Anderson Jr., a 3rd-generation funeral director, joined the company in 1969 and became licensed in 1972. Bruce remains with our company today and enjoys working in the capacity of a family service counsellor.

In 1986, H.S. Anderson Funeral Home was purchased, and the company now operates as Anderson Funeral Home and Cremation Centre. Although our Windsor funeral home has changed throughout the years, our commitment to providing families caring and compassionate service has never changed. See MoreSee Less
