History

In 1895, ordained Methodist Church minister Abner S. Elzey, and his wife, Sarah Ellen Linn Elzey, purchased the Thurber and Salisbury funeral home in Ossian, Indiana. Their son, Dale E. Elzey, became a partner in 1916, and the firm's name became Elzey and Son. Ilow Elzey, daughter of Abner and Sarah, also assisted at the funeral home.

Generations of funeral care

In the late 1930s, the firm opened a funeral home in Waynedale on Old Trail Road under the same name. Third-generation grandson, Abner W. Elzey, assisted in funeral home operations from 1934 through 1959. Robert L. Dickey joined the firm in 51, and Robert L. Haggard joined in 59. In 75, the name changed to Elzey-Dickey-Haggard Funeral Home to reflect their contributions. John Patterson became an associate in 66, and Thomas Rodak in 76. Both became partners in the late 70s and are still involved as consultants to this day.

For over a century, Northeast Indiana has trusted the Elzey Funeral Home name. It is our goal to serve and be a part of our community, carrying on the commitment handed down and entrusted to us.
