At Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, we believe that a unique life should be celebrated in a unique way. We find inspiration almost anywhere—in a favorite song, beloved hobby, trademark style, defining philosophy—and turn that into a funeral service filled with thoughtful and meaningful details.

Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn has 2 chapels. The larger one, Taylor, seats 110 people and typically has a conversational setup with tables and chairs, but it can be set up with rows of chairs for a more formal service. Saint John's is a smaller chapel and comfortably holds 70 people when set up with chairs and comfortable furniture. If you want to host a catered gathering before or after a service, we are happy to arrange food and drinks.

Legacy Lodge Event Center

New in 2019, the Legacy Lodge is a 6,000-square-foot event space overlooking the beautiful and historic Oaklawn Cemetery. The well-designed space is ideal for large celebratory memorials with flowers, music, and favorite foods and beverages—but it was meant for so much more. A free-standing building on the north side of the cemetery property, it’s perfect for birthday and anniversary parties, engagement parties and wedding receptions, bridal and baby showers, graduations and fundraisers, christenings and communions, bar and bat mitzvahs. We also lease the space for dances, holiday parties, club lunches, social gatherings, and meetings. With a catering kitchen and seating for 180-250 (depending on type of event), there’s everything you need for a beautiful occasion. We can handle catering if you wish (including special menu requests). Plus, when you lease the space, AV and sound equipment are included. So are the tables and chairs, the staff, and free parking.

Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn is located on San Jose Boulevard in the heart of Jacksonville, Florida. We are easily accessible via I-95 and Route 1. For those traveling by air, we are a short drive from the Jacksonville International Airport.

Oaklawn Cemetery

Chartered in 1927, Jacksonville's Oaklawn Cemetery sprawls 100 acres. Its grounds have been chosen as a final resting place for a number of civil leaders, elected officials and notable members of Jacksonville society.

Here you will find century-old, moss-covered oak trees, which provide an abundance of shade and quiet, calm spaces to reflect and remember loved ones, and a beautiful bell tower that chimes throughout the day. We also have a fountain that has been a part of the cemetery grounds since the 1930s.

Mausoleums and more

One of the more unique features of Oaklawn Cemetery are the 30 private mausoleums built by families over the years. We recently added two additional private mausoleums in a historic section of the cemetery for purchase, and we will always build to suit. The large community mausoleum, Lenora Mausoleum, has alcoves for small, family-only services.

The cremation garden gives families who choose cremation 30 options, including carved pedestals. This garden includes a gazebo, which is often used for committal services.

In addition to mausoleum and cremation options, Oaklawn Cemetery offers in-ground burial gardens with upright memorials, flat memorials and more. A master-planned garden built in concentric circles offers all of the various burial and memorial options in the same area, including a cremation garden, ground burials and family estates. The newest areas of the cemetery—the Garden of Abraham and San Marco Estates—include private estates, upright monuments, flat bronze markers and cremation burials.

Garden of Abraham is a Hebrew garden. The cemetery also includes another small garden dedicated to those of the Jewish faith.

We honor veterans

The teams at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel and Oaklawn Cemetery are well-versed in military funerals with honors and work with all branches of the military to uphold traditions. We participate in the Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program, a cooperative effort with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, local medical examiners, coroners, veterans advocates and veterans organizations that provides homeless and indigent veterans who have no family with proper military burials. We also work closely with the Missing in America program, which unites the cremated remains of veterans with family members and provides burial free of charge.

We care for Jacksonville

Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel and Oaklawn Cemetery host annual events for Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and Veterans Day, as well as periodic events at the funeral home or cemetery. We are the title sponsor for the River Garden Classic, a Jacksonville golf tournament that benefits River Garden nursing home by raising money for its Albert Z. Fleet Geriatric Training Center.
