About

Located in Ventura County, Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery has served as a peaceful final resting place for families in Santa Paula, Fillmore, Saticoy, Oxnard and Ventura since the late 1800s. Avocado and lemon orchards surround the property, which has sweeping green lawns, rows of tall palms and scenic mountain views in every direction. It is a lovely, tranquil setting in the Santa Clara River Valley for a permanent memorial.

Lush Cemetery Gardens

Cemetery Grounds at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula CemeteryAmong the acres of the memorial park are many beautiful gardens. With an 8-foot mosaic of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Our Lady of Guadalupe Garden allows for traditional ground burials and cremation inurnment in a community columbarium. A more recently developed garden, Mountain View, is located in the northwest part of the cemetery between two historical gardens. Along with an expansion of previously developed property, called Cemetery View Garden, it offers single burial plots.

As more and more families choose cremation, the need for spaces for cremains has increased. We opened Memory Tree Cremation Garden to meet that need. The thoughtfully landscaped garden has as a central feature a large round community columbarium with 32 granite-front niches. The sidewalk is flanked with cremation burial plots, family benches and family columbaria. We also set aside sections for build-to-suit private family estates.

How we serve Santa Paula

As part of our community service, Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery is proud to sponsor an annual Memorial Day ceremony held by the Mercer-Prieto Post 2043 Veterans of Foreign Wars. We also host an annual Día de los Muertos celebration. During this event, family and friends spend time together, sharing memories, laughter and tears as they remember and honor the lives of the departed.

History

Our Santa Paula cemetery history spans more than 100 years. In the late 1800s, Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery in Santa Paula, California, was divided into 3 family sections: the Sewell, Fagan and Mt. Olive sections.

In 1903, our cemetery was incorporated and became known as the Santa Paula Cemetery Association. Although the cemetery was an endowment care cemetery at this time, its 3 original sections were considered nonendowment care gardens. Ed Davis became the controlling owner in 1950 and was responsible for establishing the endowment care of the original sections, thus giving our cemetery its uniform appearance today.

St. Francis Dam Flood

On March 13, 1928, the city of Santa Paula was devastated by flooding caused by the collapse of the St. Francis Dam. Considered one of the worst disasters of California, the flood waters took the lives of hundreds of people who lived in the Santa Clara River Valley area. Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery buried 50 victims of the flood. On the anniversary date of the flood, memorial crosses are placed on the graves of those individuals whose lives where claimed by the floodwater. Today, a memorial stands to honor and remember the victims who lost their lives on that tragic day.
