A caring Jewish funeral home

With many years of experience observing Jewish law, we at Groman Eden Mortuary understand that a Jewish funeral is a modest, solemn religious service designed to honor the dead and provide support to the family and friends of the person who has passed. Today's Jewish families are also finding ways to blend Jewish tradition with their changing lifestyles. Our funeral directors know how to help you do both and work with all sects of the Jewish faith: Orthodox, Conservative, Reformed and Secular.

Jewish funeral tradition pays tribute to 2 primary principles. The first is kavod ha-met, or honoring the dead, which teaches that it is of utmost importance to treat the body with respect and care from the time of death until the burial is completed. The second principle is the view that death is a natural part of life. As in the familiar concept “from ashes to ashes, dust to dust,” Jewish law teaches that the body should be returned to the earth from which it came.

We honor veterans

At Groman Eden Mortuary, we understand the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families. As a Level Three Founding Community Partner with We Honor Veterans, our staff is knowledgeable in the benefits available to veterans and their families. With respect, integrity and dignity, we will walk you through the steps of creating a veteran's memorial service that truly honors the life and sacrifice of your loved one.

History

The Groman Family got into the funeral business in 1929, when Charles Groman joined Louis Glasband to form Glasband-Groman-Glasband. Harry Groman, Charles's son and a respected funeral director who was president of the California Funeral Directors Association, Jewish Funeral Directors of America, National Selected Morticians and National Funeral Directors Association, built Groman Eden Mortuary on the grounds of Eden Memorial Park. The first funeral was held there on November 21, 1961.

Harry supported the Jewish community in many ways. If he heard of a rabbi or cantor who needed a job, he hired them to work in 1 of his mortuaries or write religious books until they found other employment. If Harry learned of an organization or cause that needed his help, he offered assistance right away.

Harry was also a hands-on owner, directing funeral services alongside his staff. He never forgot the words his grandfather Jacob spoke to his father, Charles: “You will meet many people who are not able to take care of themselves. When you meet these people it is fitting that you, as a Jew, do what you can to help them.”

More than 8 decades later, Groman Eden Mortuary continues to follow that advice, treating each family as if they are our own.

Eden Memorial Park

Small Pond at Hills of Moses at Eden Memorial ParkComprising 60 lushly landscaped acres, Eden Memorial Park sits in the heart of San Fernando Valley. It has tall cypress trees, terraced gardens and pretty views. A wide boulevard unfolds along graceful paths throughout the cemetery grounds. A gently bubbling fountain trickles to a river in the Garden of Eden.

The Eden Memorial Park mausoleum is gracefully appointed. Bench estates have custom landscaping.

Eternal Light Chapel, which has seating for 250 guests, is located on the cemetery grounds and is a beautiful spot for a committal service.

Eden Memorial Park is the final resting place for such notable people as Groucho Marx and Lenny Bruce, but you don't need to be famous to be buried here. We are open to everyone.

Visit our cemetery

Photographs convey at lot, but we invite you to see our cemetery property for yourself. Come stroll through Eden Memorial Park, or call us to set up a guided tour. Eden Memorial Park is open Sunday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are closed on Saturdays and on Jewish holidays.

Special events

Throughout the year, Groman Eden Mortuary and Eden Memorial Park host events open to everyone. We performed our 61st annual Kevor Avot service in 2016, with an ever-growing support of the community. During this service, typically held at the end of September or beginning of October, we remember those who have passed with flowers for their families. Local rabbis speak, and hundreds attend. We also hold Veterans Day and Memorial Day services and sponsor blood drives put on by the American Red Cross.
