A Sacramento-area funeral home
Since our founding in 1965 by Foy Bryant, Mount Vernon Mortuary has served Greater Sacramento-area families. Through the decades our services have evolved but our commitment to exceptional service has never changed. Our funeral home includes a crematory with a witnessing room.
Mount Vernon Mortuary has two chapels. The main chapel, Chapel of the Valley, is a traditional space with pews that seat approximately 250 guests. This non-denominational space features an exquisite ribbed vaulted ceiling and two large golden chandeliers. Natural light floods in during daytime services. The more intimate Family Chapel can accommodate 50 guests and is located on the first floor of the funeral home.
A celebration of life
All of the funeral services held at Mount Vernon Mortuary are designed to meet the unique needs of each individual and assist families through one of the most personal and challenging stages of life.
Our dedicated funeral directors can find inspiration almost anywhere—a favorite song, hobby or even an iconic style—and turn that inspiration into a funeral service filled with thoughtful and meaningful details. Celebrations could include a loved one’s passion for kayaking on Folsom Lake or cooking special meals for family and friends. There’s truly no limit to the special tribute we can create.
Whether your plan includes a tradition funeral, personalized memorial service or transfer to anywhere in the world, it’s our honor to help you arrange a celebration that reflects the personality and passions of your loved one or yourself.
Cremation services
We specialize in cremation services that honor loved ones in personalized ways, and families love our transparent pricing. With expertise in scattering ashes and a friendly team who pays attention to every detail, we provide service that is second to none.
More and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burial, but most aren’t familiar with the many options:
- a cremation without a funeral or memorial service of any kind.
- a funeral with your loved one present, followed by cremation.
- a cremation followed by a scattering, cemetery memorialization or celebration of life—or all three.
For those who wish for a more momentous memorial, Neptune Memorial Reef is an underwater cremation garden off the coast of Florida. A Celestis Memorial Spaceflight takes ashes into space for a little while or forever.
There are many options for cremation—and they're not all equal. Here's what you can expect when you choose us for your loved one's cremation:
- Custody of care guaranteed. Our custody-of-care program helps safeguard the identification of your loved one from the time we bring them into our care until the time we return them to your family. We check, cross-check and check again, every step of the way.
- Exclusive custody of your loved one. We use only crematories owned and operated by Dignity Memorial® providers or trusted partners. Once your loved one is in our custody or that of a trusted partner, they’re in our care until they’re returned to your family.
- Licensed, certified, conscientious staff. All Dignity Memorial crematory operators are licensed and certified by Cremation Association of North America, or CANA. Only one person at a time is cremated, and the cremation chamber is thoroughly cleaned before the next person is cremated.

On-site crematory
Mount Vernon Mortuary has a private on-site crematory, which means your loved one never leaves our care. Cremation is important in certain religions and cultures, and more and more people are choosing cremation over more traditional burial options, but most people aren’t familiar with all of their choices when it comes to cremation. You may choose a direct cremation without a funeral or memorial service of any kind; a funeral with the body present, followed by cremation; or a cremation followed by a cemetery service or a celebration of life. If you wish, cremated remains can be interred at Mount Vernon Memorial Park.

Mount Vernon Memorial Park
Founded in 1965, Mount Vernon Memorial Park is a 49-acre cemetery offering a peaceful final resting place. The cemetery provides families with a peaceful setting amid the hustle and bustle of Fair Oaks.
Numerous magnolia, maple, crepe myrtle and elm trees provide shade to the cemetery on hot summer days. The well-landscaped property also features lovely annual blooming flowers and nature gardens, which make for ideal spots to take a moment for reflection.
Tranquil gardens
The main entrance of Mount Vernon Memorial Park features two large fountains, a statue of George Washington (the cemetery is named after his Virginia home) and a replica of the Liberty Bell. The cemetery grounds also feature a monument that honors lives lost on 9/11 as well as a veterans garden with cannons and flags representing all military branches.
Among the first of its kind in the Sacramento area, the modern Cremation Memorial Garden features flowing streams, elegant flower gardens, granite benches and scenic waterfall formations.
Located in the Garden of Four Gospels are four 20-foot-tall mosaic art pieces. Built and assembled from Italian tiles, each depicts a different scene from the Bible: Jesus and his flock, the baptism of Jesus, Jesus with children and Jesus at the Sea of Galilee.
Burial options
The many manicured gardens located at Mount Vernon Memorial Park provide private and peaceful areas for family and friends to remember loved ones. A walk down one of our winding paths showcases a range of burial options: traditional in-ground plots, as well as a mausoleum complex, columbaria, crypts, cremation niches and benches, and private and semiprivate estates.
Glass-front niches are available inside Mount Vernon Mortuary. This is a truly unique and personal option for families. Unlike traditional granite markers that list a person’s name and dates, niches can be decorated with personal items such as family photographs, jewelry, stuffed animals or sports memorabilia. The possibilities for personalization are endless.
Recognizing veterans and public servants
Mount Vernon Memorial Park & Mortuary support military members, veterans and families through the Dignity Memorial® Homeless Veterans Burial Program, a cooperative effort with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, local medical examiners, coroners, veterans advocates and veterans organizations. Through the Homeless Veterans Burial Program, homeless and indigent veterans who have no family to claim them are identified and provided with proper military burials.
We are also firmly committed to the Public Servants Program, which recognizes the courage and selflessness of those who serve. Through the program, we offer dignified and honorable tributes, at no cost, for career and volunteer law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency services personnel who fall in the line of duty.
We care about our community
Mount Vernon Memorial Park & Mortuary extend an open invitation to the community throughout the year for various events.
Our first event of the year is not to be missed. Every Presidents Day, we host more than 50 vendors who showcase their handmade and historical crafts. Attended by about 600 people every year, the program is lively and kid friendly. Several of our team members even dress up as famous historical figures like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln!
Our Easter Sunrise Service is held at 6 a.m. each Easter. A non-denominational church service is held, followed by donuts and hot chocolate.
On both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, our team members are available to clean and detail the grave markers of loved ones for those in attendance. In recent years, we have provided more than 300 apple and cherry pies on Mother's Day. We treat Father's Day visitors to root beer floats and hot dogs.
Our huge Memorial Day service honors veterans and draws more than 4,500 guests. We arrange for awesome flyovers, skydivers and a military band. More than 300 large flags line the streets of Mount Vernon Memorial Park and small flags are placed on the graves of servicemen and servicewomen by local Boy Scouts troops. This event is especially stirring and humbling due to its location in our veterans section, the Court of Honor. We also host a Veterans Day event in November.
No matter your religion, culture or beliefs, we recognize that the holiday season can be a particularly emotional time for families who have lost loved ones. During our non-denominational Night of Remembrance, we invite all families to join us to celebrate the lives of those we’ve lost throughout the year and gain a sense of peace from the healing power of community. Guests are invited to light candles in honor of their loved ones and enjoy desserts, hot chocolate and seasonal music. Local clergy provide words of comfort, and the night ends with family members hanging personalized ornaments on our Tree of Remembrance.
